Responsible Gaming
Last Updated: October 2, 2026
Beat The Odds is a paid-entry fantasy sports contest platform for adults 21 and older. Most people who play contests do so for entertainment, within limits they set for themselves. For some people, gambling stops being entertainment and becomes harmful. This page explains the controls we build into the product and where to get help that has nothing to do with us.
Get Help Now
If gambling is causing you or someone you know harm, the National Problem Gambling Helpline is free, confidential, and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It is operated by the National Council on Problem Gambling and routes you to a contact center in your own state.
- Call or text 1-800-MY-RESET (1-800-697-3738)
- Call or text 1-800-522-4700 — an older access point to the same helpline network, still active
- Chat online at ncpgambling.org/chat
- Information and a self-assessment at ncpgambling.org
The National Council on Problem Gambling is independent of Beat The Odds. We do not receive any information about who contacts them.
You Must Be 21 or Older
You must be at least 21 years old to create a Beat The Odds account. We collect your date of birth at registration and check it on our servers, not only in the app, and we may require additional proof of age. We close accounts we find to be held by anyone under 21.
The Platform is also limited to the United States, and contest entry is limited to states where we offer contests. See our Terms of Service for the full eligibility rules.
Tools Built Into the App
Our responsible-gaming controls live in the Beat The Odds app under Account → Responsible Gaming. If you play on the web, the same controls are under Profile → Responsible Gaming. There is no way to set a limit or start a self-exclusion from this marketing site — you need to be signed in, so that we are certain the change is being made by the account holder. If you cannot reach the app, email us and we will help (see Contact, below).
Contest-Entry Limits
You can set a limit on how much you put into paid contests over a daily, weekly, or monthly period. Our servers check the limit before a paid entry is accepted, and an entry that would take you past it is refused.
- Lowering a limit takes effect immediately. There is no waiting period on making your own limit stricter.
- Raising a limit takes 24 hours to take effect. During that cooling-off period your previous, lower limit is the one that applies. This is deliberate: it prevents a limit from being undone in the moment it matters most.
Not available yet: deposit limits and loss limits. The app may let you save these, but they are not yet enforced, so do not rely on them. We do not currently offer time limits, play-time alerts, or activity statements either.
Self-Exclusion
If you want to stop, you can exclude yourself from the platform for 1 month, 6 months, 1 year, or permanently. While a self-exclusion is active, our servers refuse bets, contest entries, and deposits on your account.
A self-exclusion cannot be cancelled during the period you chose. That is the point of it. Choose the length deliberately.
[COUNSEL: confirm the formal terms of self-exclusion that must be stated here — whether an in-app self-exclusion satisfies the statutory self-exclusion requirement in each state where we offer contests, whether a written or witnessed request route must also be offered, what process (if any) ends a permanent exclusion, and what happens to a remaining wallet balance and to marketing contact when an exclusion begins.]
Playing Within Your Limits
Fantasy contests are entertainment, and they cost money. A few practices make it more likely they stay entertainment:
- Decide what you are willing to spend before you play, and set a contest-entry limit to match
- Treat the money you enter contests with as spent, not as an investment
- Do not enter contests to win back what you have lost
- Do not play with money set aside for rent, bills, food, or debt
- Do not play to cope with stress, loneliness, or low mood
- Take breaks, and keep other things in your week that you would miss
If you are not sure whether your gambling has become a problem, the National Council on Problem Gambling publishes a short, free self-assessment at ncpgambling.org. It is anonymous and takes a few minutes.
Protecting People Under 21
Keeping under-21s off the platform is not only our job. If you share a device, do not save your Beat The Odds password in a browser or app others use, sign out when you are done, and use your device's own screen-time and content controls. If you believe someone under 21 is using an account, email us and we will investigate and close it.
State-Specific Resources
Several states run their own problem-gambling helplines and self-exclusion programs in addition to the national helpline above.
[COUNSEL: list the state-specific responsible-gaming disclosures, helpline numbers, and state self-exclusion program references required in each state where we offer contests, and confirm whether any state requires its own number to be displayed instead of, or alongside, the national helpline. This section is intentionally empty of state numbers rather than populated from a secondary source — a wrong helpline number is worse than no number. The operator license number for each licensed state also belongs here once issued; the placeholder lives in apps/web-bettor/app/(public)/locations/page.tsx.]
